The Danish Gambling Authority has confirmed that it will be closed between Christmas and New Year, with services suspended from 24 December up to and including 1 January.
The closure applies to the regulator itself, as well as the StopSpillet gambling helpline and the national self-exclusion register, ROFUS.
According to the authority, enquiries submitted during the closure period will not receive a response until operations resume after the New Year.
Operators and consumers have been advised to take the interruption into account when planning regulatory correspondence or support requests over the holiday period.
The Danish Gambling Authority plays a central role in supervising Denmark’s regulated gambling market, overseeing licensing, compliance and responsible gambling initiatives. Its temporary closure comes during a period of heightened regulatory activity in the country, following several policy and enforcement developments in 2025.
In recent months, the regulator has published updated market data showing continued growth across key gambling verticals.
In August 2025, total gambling revenue reached DKK 714m ($111.1m), representing a 25.1% year-on-year increase. Sports betting recorded the strongest performance, rising 53.4% to DKK 225m, while online casino revenue increased by 20.7% to DKK 361m. The authority also released updated figures for ROFUS, which reported more than 64,000 registered users during the same period.
The closure also follows regulatory updates introduced earlier this year. In July, Denmark revised its gambling marketing guidance, reinforcing rules around transparency, the presentation of winning chances and protections against advertising that could appeal to minors. The guidance applies across both online and land-based operators licensed in the Danish market.
More recently, Denmark secured cross-party parliamentary support for a wide-ranging responsible gambling policy package aimed at reducing gambling-related harm, particularly among young people.
The Danish Gambling Authority has not indicated whether any interim arrangements will be in place during the holiday closure, confirming only that normal service will resume after 1 January.
